Architectural projects and site photography for verified views

Photography
Good visualisation starts with good photography. Whether you need backplates for CGI, site photography for verified views (AVRs), or images of a completed building, the photography has to be right before anything else can be.
I'm a working visualiser as well as a photographer, with over 25 years in 3D. I know what happens to a photograph once it reaches the modelling and compositing stage, so I shoot with that in mind from the start.
I work with architects, developers, planning consultants and other visualisers across Leicestershire, the East Midlands and the wider UK.
What I photograph
CGI backplates
The photograph a visualiser builds a scheme into. Shot with the final image in mind: the right viewpoint, lens, light and time of day.

Verified view photography
Site photography for AVRs and photomontages for planning applications, shot from agreed viewpoints and recorded so camera positions can be surveyed and matched accurately.

Finished architecture
Photography of completed buildings and interiors for portfolios, awards, press and marketing.

Why photography matters for visualisation
Realism
A well-chosen photograph is the quickest route to a believable image. It captures the real light, weather, materials and atmosphere of a site, and the render is then built to sit inside it.
Lighting
Lighting is the hardest thing to fake. The backplate sets the direction, quality and mood of light, and the render has to match it. I plan shoots around the weather and sun position so the conditions suit the scheme.
People, cars and life
Because the camera stays locked off on a tripod, I can capture additional frames of people and vehicles moving through the scene. These are already at the right scale, perspective and lighting, which saves time in post-production.
Reflections
On request I photograph what would be reflected in the proposed glazing, giving the visualiser real reference to work from. It's a small detail that makes a big difference to the final image.
Why work with me
I understand the visualisation workflow
Many architectural photographers have never had to hand a file to a modeller or composite a render into their own work. I do both, so I know how to shoot around street furniture, keep perspective consistent and capture what's needed for camera matching.
Planning before the site visit
Once the brief is confirmed, I review viewpoints, light, time of day and any access or permission issues before going on site. This resolves most problems early and makes the shoot quicker and more reliable.
One point of contact
If you're also commissioning the visualisation or verified views from me, the photography, modelling and montage all sit under one roof. There's no handover between suppliers and no lost information.
Clear communication
Even a simple brief gets talked through first, so we agree views, lens choice and timing before I pick up the camera.
Verified views and survey
For AVR work I coordinate with our surveying partner, Castle Surveys Ltd, so viewpoints are photographed and surveyed together. Where the application needs it, I'll advise on view selection, lens choice and AVR level before the shoot.
Equipment and delivery
I shoot with a full-frame Sony system from a tripod and deliver RAW / high-resolution files. Files are named and organised so they can go straight into your pipeline.
Get in touch
Tell me the site address, the views you need and your timescale, and I'll send a quote. If you're not sure which viewpoints will work, I'm happy to talk it through.
